All presentations were well done and very interesting. By listening any playing around on these sites I learned and enjoyed viewing the sites.

Great job!

Review of Course

I really enjoyed taking this class. I feel I learned a lot of new information from this class, not just from the book readings, but from the interaction among classmates. Ms. Luongo made this class very interesting. She really knows her material and how to project it to the class. She was very helpful. The lessons and interesting discussions made this a fun learning experience. I enjoyed reading the articles my classmates posted and seeing their thoughts on various issues. The idea of recieving feedback from others was a good for building up my knowledge on the topics. It was good to hear different points of view.
When I started out, I honestly did not like online classes, but this one turned out to be quite exciting. The class was taught in a well-organized manner. There is a lot of information that I learned about technology and why it is so important to intragrate it into your currilicum and classroom. Students and teachers benefit from technology. I also learned about websites that I did not know previouly, which I will visit from time to time during my teaching career.
Ms. Luongo and classmates thanks for a great semester. Hopefully we will meet in other classes.
Have a wonderful Holiday and keep bloging. I know I was not a great bloger , but I plan to try to continue it. Bye......

Introducing the Book Video

It was actually comical seeing how someone could not manipulate a book. Now everything is on computers. If you need information or want to read a newspaper, you can do it on a computer. It was funny seeing how hard it was for him to understand how to use a book, but to him it must have been confusing and frustrating. It was like someone trying to operate a computer and not knowing how it works. Opening a book and saving information in it compared tp a computer, turing a page of a book compared to clicking to the next page on a computer. Everything children learn today they do with technology. The way we had to learn to use a book is how children will learn the new technology. It's the same concept.

Why We Need to Teach Technology in Schools?

In the world today it is extremely important to teach technology. Technology is a part of children's everyday lives. Technology is consistently integrated into the curriculum helps the child's learning process. Technology is consistently changing and if you don't keep up with it, you can get lost. I feel technology should be incorporated into the curriculum because children get motivated and excited multimedia. It also encourges life-long learning.

NJEA Convention

I attended the NJEA Convention on Friday it was a great experience for me. I also was amazed how many things you recieve free for vendors. I took one of the workshops "Reading and Writing Workshop for Elementary English Language Learners. The speaker talked about how to get your english language learners/ all students to become good readers and writers. The speaker talked about comprehension strategies that can be used. She when over steps they would take in a reading and writing workshop such as these steps: schema, making connections, questiong, visualizing, inferring and synthesis. It was a interesting workshop.

I stopped at the Scholastic vendors, they were really helpful. I started talking to one of the ladies and mentioned that I will be doing a presentation and a rubric on how I would evaluate the Scholastic web site. She was very helpful and I was very happy that she took time out to talk and show me all the great points "Scholastic" offers teachers, students and parents . It was great and I gained more knowledge about Scholastic and I am looking forward to presenting my presentation.

Knowledge Box

"Knowledge Box is a powerful digital learning system that delivers dynamic, effective and engaging media to classrooms." I think Knowledge Box is a great site for children. I like how KB focuses on all areas such as math, science, language arts, social studies for students to view and participate in digital educational games. With the social studies section there was a game I clicked on called "fishing for words", it was a fun game to play. Children will have fun while actually learning.

Rocket Reader Program

I think that the Rocket Reader program is great for children. It uses different techniques that are essential to improving a child's reading. It improves their reading skills, enhances speed and comprehension and expands their vocabulary. Its important that children develop good reading skills at a early age before bad habits develop. The children learn at their own pace. I like that the child gets immediate feedback on his/her work. The program also improves the children's confidence. By building the children's confidence, it will encourage them to want to read more. The website offers a lot of topics that target student's interest that they will enjoy reading. The program is easy to use and fun. This is a good thing. If they feel confident and enjoy it, they will read more and their reading skills will improve daily.

computer-assisted instruction and writing

Readingrockets
http://www.readingrockets.org/article/22028?theme=print
The articel is about computer-assisted instruction. It talks about how computer programs are interesting to children because the leassons are animated, and the websites have demonstrations that the children can follow. Students can work with the program at their own pace. It is good for students because they immediatly get freedback on their work. The program provides differentiated lessons to challenge students who are at risk, average, or gifted. It helps students with their writing skills. It good because it helps them learn the writing progress. The article also mentions programs such as kidspiration which is a great site for children because they are having fun while learning. It shows children pictures and colors of things they can relate too.

Education: Today and Tommorrow Video

It was an interesting video. Video shows that education back then prepares people to work in a factory. Today there is so much more technology out there to be used in our classrooms. Years ago they had to make do with tools such as books, flashcards, tape recorders, projectors and record players. I think classrooms need to be updated to have computers with internet access and educational software. Technology in our schools is a fundamental part of our growing educational needs that our students must have to achieve success in our society today.

My Access!

My access is a web-based instructional writing program that provides students the opportunity to develop their writing skills. It allows students to input their assignments into the computer. This guides them through the process of the assignments. It's good because sstudents recieve immediate feedback from the system about their writing. It gives the child motivation to improve writing. It scores the students writing skills. They also have access to a variety of tools such as a writer's checklist, that helps guide students through their writing process. There are scoring rubrics that students can use to self-assess their own writing. The system checks for grammatical errors, gives suggestions and also gives explantions of rules that help students improve tense sense and spelling. As a future teacher I would love to be able to have a program such as this because the students can benefit from it, especially multilingual and ELL students. I wish they had programs like this years ago to help enhance the learning of students. Today it is great to have all of these programs and technogies intergrated class. The students can use these programs to learn and grow and by applying what they learn in their future jobs and lives.

Refreshing the ISTE Technology

I read an article call Refreshing the ISTE Technology Standards by Gary Stager June 2007. The article talks about how the NETS standards should be updated. It says that educators should consider what our students need to know and to be productive in a digital and global society. It asks why did it takes so long to identify creativity and innovation as importance of several of the "noncore" areas of the school curriculum such as the arts and some of the less structured learning opportunities as major forces in developing creativity and innovation in students. It saids "that most stakeholders assumed the U.S. had a lock on world eadership in these two areas". "Chinese nationals made it clear that the world is rapidly cutting into our lead". You need creativity and innovation to generate salaries and employment opportunties in the U.S. workforce. The NETS refresh document targets the audiences of teachers, learning resources developers, school leaders, students, parents and the community.
NETS outlines what students should know about technology and what they should do within the school context. Their are six standards to NETS. This was an article that Gary Stager asked questions of Don Knezek, CEO of the ISTE. They said that the NETS are not mandatory. He says there is a number of consequences they face, if not met. Each state decides its own standards they follow. The schools need to intervene to accomplish NETS results. They say that their is a lot being done at different levels to provide students with the tools to achieve NET standards. They feel that students should learn to use presentation software effectively and need self responsibility with the internet. It talks about how students do not need to know how to program and master computer science. ITSE views corporations as important sponsors of NETS. With the ITSE it always puts the students needs and concerns first.

Internet Safety

I though that the interent videos were interesting. I cannot stress how important it is to proctect yourself and your children from internet predators. Internet safety is defintely a concern for parents today. There are pros and cons with the internet. It is great to research topics, but there are people out there who hack into computers to steal information or plant viruses in people's computers. Then there are the predators who use chat rooms to lure children and teenagers. As a future teacher/parent I think that you need to monitor what the children are viewing, especially if they are in any chat rooms.
