Introducing the Book Video

It was actually comical seeing how someone could not manipulate a book. Now everything is on computers. If you need information or want to read a newspaper, you can do it on a computer. It was funny seeing how hard it was for him to understand how to use a book, but to him it must have been confusing and frustrating. It was like someone trying to operate a computer and not knowing how it works. Opening a book and saving information in it compared tp a computer, turing a page of a book compared to clicking to the next page on a computer. Everything children learn today they do with technology. The way we had to learn to use a book is how children will learn the new technology. It's the same concept.

Why We Need to Teach Technology in Schools?

In the world today it is extremely important to teach technology. Technology is a part of children's everyday lives. Technology is consistently integrated into the curriculum helps the child's learning process. Technology is consistently changing and if you don't keep up with it, you can get lost. I feel technology should be incorporated into the curriculum because children get motivated and excited multimedia. It also encourges life-long learning.

NJEA Convention

I attended the NJEA Convention on Friday it was a great experience for me. I also was amazed how many things you recieve free for vendors. I took one of the workshops "Reading and Writing Workshop for Elementary English Language Learners. The speaker talked about how to get your english language learners/ all students to become good readers and writers. The speaker talked about comprehension strategies that can be used. She when over steps they would take in a reading and writing workshop such as these steps: schema, making connections, questiong, visualizing, inferring and synthesis. It was a interesting workshop.

I stopped at the Scholastic vendors, they were really helpful. I started talking to one of the ladies and mentioned that I will be doing a presentation and a rubric on how I would evaluate the Scholastic web site. She was very helpful and I was very happy that she took time out to talk and show me all the great points "Scholastic" offers teachers, students and parents . It was great and I gained more knowledge about Scholastic and I am looking forward to presenting my presentation.

Knowledge Box

"Knowledge Box is a powerful digital learning system that delivers dynamic, effective and engaging media to classrooms." I think Knowledge Box is a great site for children. I like how KB focuses on all areas such as math, science, language arts, social studies for students to view and participate in digital educational games. With the social studies section there was a game I clicked on called "fishing for words", it was a fun game to play. Children will have fun while actually learning.

Rocket Reader Program

I think that the Rocket Reader program is great for children. It uses different techniques that are essential to improving a child's reading. It improves their reading skills, enhances speed and comprehension and expands their vocabulary. Its important that children develop good reading skills at a early age before bad habits develop. The children learn at their own pace. I like that the child gets immediate feedback on his/her work. The program also improves the children's confidence. By building the children's confidence, it will encourage them to want to read more. The website offers a lot of topics that target student's interest that they will enjoy reading. The program is easy to use and fun. This is a good thing. If they feel confident and enjoy it, they will read more and their reading skills will improve daily.

Education: Today and Tommorrow Video

It was an interesting video. Video shows that education back then prepares people to work in a factory. Today there is so much more technology out there to be used in our classrooms. Years ago they had to make do with tools such as books, flashcards, tape recorders, projectors and record players. I think classrooms need to be updated to have computers with internet access and educational software. Technology in our schools is a fundamental part of our growing educational needs that our students must have to achieve success in our society today.
